Bridesmaid Dress Styles for Pregnant Women

Most brides are ready to pick out a dress style that works well on different body types. There are some additional considerations, though, if one of the bridesmaids will be pregnant at the wedding. Wedding experts estimate that as many as half of all wedding parties include a pregnant bridesmaid. Happily, there are several figure-flattering maternity styles to choose from.

You need to keep your bridesmaid's comfort in mind while choosing a dress for her. Some fabrics that work well for a bridesmaids dress are silk, matte jersey and crepe. Soft pastel colors like peach, fawn and powder blue will bring out the glow in the bridesmaid and suit a blossoming figure. You can also add flair to the bridesmaids dress by jazzing it up with sequins and beads.

A-Line Dresses

  • Many bridesmaid dress designers offer maternity sizes in their more popular A-line gown styles. A-line dresses are a very popular bridesmaid option because they look good on just about any body type. This gown works well on pregnant women because it minimizes the lower half of the body. They offer a timeless silhouette that is narrower on the top and gradually becomes wider towards the bottom, creating an "A" shape.

Empire-Waist Dresses

  • Empire dresses are frequently used in maternity fashions because they offer comfort and style. An empire dress is a great option because it draws the eye upwards while elongating the body. This style works well for women who are smaller on top and larger on the bottom. The waist of an empire dress is set higher than the waistline of other dress styles, sometimes right under the bust. Pregnant bridesmaids may be self-conscious about their baby bump with the empire pregnant bridesmaid dresses.
